California Department of Health Care Services

The mission of the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) is to provide Californians with access to affordable, integrated, high quality health care, including medical, dental, mental health, substance use treatment services, and long-term care. The department's vision is to preserve and improve the overall health and well-being of all Californians.

DHCS finances and administers the California Medical Assistance Program (Medi-Cal) and a number of individual health care service delivery programs, including California Children’s Services, the High-Risk Infant Follow-Up Program, the Medical Therapy Program, Child Health and Disability Prevention, Health Care Program for Children in Foster Care, and the Newborn Hearing Screening Program.
